Trabzonspor have accepted the resignation of head coach Fatih Tekke, reversing their initial decision to keep him on after what they described as an emotionally charged reaction to the club’s Europa League exit.
Tekke, 48, who guided the team to third place in the league last season, offered to step down following a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off round. After first declining his request on Friday, the Super Lig side announced on Wednesday that they had reached a mutual agreement to part ways in line with the club’s interests and long-term plans.
In their statement, Trabzonspor said Tekke had added substantial value over his roughly 18 months in charge—developing players, delivering sporting and financial benefits, and returning the Turkish Cup to the club’s trophy cabinet, securing his place in its history. They added that, consistent with Tekke’s stance that he would never allow his presence to harm the club, both sides agreed it was time to set a new course prioritizing Trabzonspor’s needs. The club thanked him for his dedication, achievements, and contributions.
