MADRID — The second division match between Ceuta and Almeria was halted on Sunday following the death of a fan.

According to Spanish media reports, a 73-year-old Ceuta supporter fell ill in the stands and later died, a fact confirmed by the Spanish league.

With the match in the 20th minute, the referee paused the game as medical personnel attended to the fan. Play resumed over ten minutes later after the individual was carried off on a stretcher.

The tragic news was revealed during halftime, leading the referee to abandon the match.

The Spanish league has not yet announced a rescheduled date for the game.
