Kieran Trippier expressed that leaving Newcastle this summer, as his contract comes to an end, will be quite “emotional.”
The 35-year-old defender has accumulated over 150 appearances for the Magpies and netted four goals during his four-and-a-half-year tenure at St James’ Park.
He has played a pivotal role under Eddie Howe, contributing to the club’s first major trophy in 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup last season. Additionally, he’s helped the team qualify for the Champions League twice in the last three years.
In an interview on Newcastle’s website, Trippier shared: “The time has come to leave this amazing club after four and a half years. This is where I have felt most at home. It’s emotional, and I’m really going to miss it.”
“I want to extend a huge thank you to the supporters for their unwavering support during both the good and difficult times. You’ve always stood by me.”
“To my teammates, this is going to be emotional. It’s been an incredible journey together. I’m going to miss you all, but lifting a trophy alongside you all is something truly special—the highlight of my career.”
“And to manager Eddie Howe, the coaching staff, and everyone behind the scenes, thank you immensely.”
The former right-back for Burnley and Tottenham, who made the switch to Newcastle from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, has represented England in 54 senior matches.
Howe commented: “Kieran has been exceptional for us both on and off the field. From the day he arrived, he has contributed to elevating the standards that have shifted the club’s trajectory.”
“His leadership has been invaluable. In challenging times, his experience brought calmness, and his determination to win has motivated the players to continually strive for progress.”
“While we are set to bid farewell to Kieran soon, we still have much to accomplish this season. I’m confident a player of Kieran’s caliber will give his utmost to conclude his time here on a high.”
