US President Donald Trump says removing embattled Fifa president Gianni Infantino would be a serious error.
Trump’s support came after Uefa, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation published an open letter accusing Infantino of betraying their trust “through deception” over the now-abandoned Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan.
The FFE proposal would have created a new company to handle commercial and ticketing rights for all Fifa competitions, including World Cups, with 21% sold to a private investment group.
This is the first time Trump has publicly defended Infantino since the plan surfaced on 28 July.
On social media, Trump warned Fifa against even considering replacing Infantino, arguing he had overseen by far the most successful World Cup and that without him the event would never match its current success or profitability.
The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, concluded this summer with Spain defeating Argentina in the final.
When first addressing the FFE plan on 31 July, Trump said he had not discussed it with Infantino.
Thrive Eternal was expected to lead the proposed investor consortium for FFE.
Thrive is a U.S. venture capital firm founded by Joshua Kushner, the brother of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Infantino has a close relationship with Trump and presented him with the inaugural Fifa Peace Prize in December 2025.
