ATLANTA — Peyton Miller netted a goal and Will Sands scored his first in MLS as the New England Revolution triumphed over Atlanta United FC 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Revolution (5-3-0) extended their winning streak to four games and have claimed five victories in their last six matches, with U.S. goalkeeper Matt Turner making eight saves for New England.
On the other hand, Atlanta (1-7-1) is struggling, having lost four consecutive matches and remaining winless across five games since Gerardo Martino’s return to the organization this season. The Five Stripes have the league’s worst goal differential at minus-20.
Miller sealed the match with a close-range effort, striking in the 78th minute.
Fafà Picault scored his first goal of the season in the 38th minute. The 36-year-old forward joined Atlanta as a free agent in February, marking his seventh MLS club after previously playing for Inter Miami, and has a total of 61 career regular-season goals.
Sands equalized in the 73rd minute, redirecting a header from a corner taken by Carles Gil into the back of the net.
New England’s Alhassan Yussuf thought he had scored in the 19th minute, connecting with a pass from Ilay Feingold for a powerful volley that struck the bottom of the crossbar and went in, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review for offside.
