U.S. Goalkeeper Kochen…

Barcelona goalkeeper Diego Kochen is set to leave the club on loan this summer, with sources indicating that Danish side Lyngby Boldklub is in the lead to acquire the American talent.

The 20-year-old Kochen is highly regarded at Barça, but it’s been determined that the best path for his growth is to gain regular playing time elsewhere.

Recently promoted to the Danish Superliga, Lyngby is eager to bring him on for a season-long loan, and sources suggest that Kochen is receptive to the opportunity.

There’s already a connection to America at Lyngby. In 2024, Union Sports and Entertainment, the ownership group of Philadelphia Union, acquired a 10% stake in the club.

The Miami-born goalkeeper has participated in USMNT training camps under Mauricio Pochettino and spent the last season splitting time between Barça’s first team and the reserve squad, Barça Atletic, who compete in Spain’s fourth division.

Though he was primarily the club’s third-choice goalkeeper this past season, behind Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny, he was included in Hansi Flick’s matchday squad for 40 matches.

Despite this involvement, Kochen has yet to make his full senior debut for the Catalan giants, though he did play 29 minutes in a friendly against Liga MX side Club América in Dallas in 2023.

His playing time primarily came through his 20 appearances for Barça Atletic during the 2025-26 season in the Segunda Federación.

Kochen, whose contract with Barça runs until 2028, has Venezuelan and Peruvian heritage but has consistently chosen to represent the United States.

In addition to training camps with the senior team, he has received caps at U16, U17, U19, U20, and U23 levels.
