Manchester United and Sunderland played to a goalless draw in a Premier League match at the Stadium of Light.
The home side started the match positively, with Chemsdine Talbi and Noah Sadiki missing their best chances. For United, Joshua Zirkzee came close with a header that just went over.
As the second half unfolded, Sunderland continued to pose a threat. Senne Lammens made an impressive save against Brian Brobbey, and soon after, Lutsharel Geertruida struck the post. United almost scored late in the game when Matheus Cunha‘s shot was saved.
The match ended in a stalemate, with United maintaining their unbeaten streak in the league over the past four games. They have already secured a spot in next season’s Champions League, while Sunderland celebrated their second consecutive draw.
Sunderland made one change from their previous match against Wolves, with Geertruida stepping in for the suspended Dan Ballard.
United, on the other hand, made five changes from the team that defeated Liverpool, including a start for former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo, who had a successful loan stint with the team during the 2022-2023 season.

Talbi was active on the wing for Sunderland, sending a curling shot just past the post early in the match.
They had another chance shortly afterward with a series of one-touch passes that led to Enzo Le Fée feeding Sadiki, prompting a low save from Lammens.
United’s first opportunity came from a free kick taken by Bruno Fernandes, which found Amad at the edge of the box, but his shot went wide.
Sunderland controlled most of the possession and had a penalty appeal turned down by VAR after a shot from Le Fée struck Amad’s arm in the area.
Lammens was tested again when he had to punch the ball away after Geertruida awkwardly touched a free kick from Granit Xhaka.
Zirkzee then missed another chance for United, heading Cunha’s cross just over the bar, while Brobbey fired wide for Sunderland and Sadiki’s effort was deflected for a corner.
The second half began evenly, with Sunderland seizing control again as Noussair Mazraoui cleared a ball off the line, and Xhaka’s cross was calmly gathered by Lammens.
Le Fé was instrumental in creating a chance for Brobbey, whose shot was parried by Lammens. Geertruida then came close after connecting on a flick from Brobbey, but the shot hit the post. Le Fé’s long-range effort skimmed over the bar in the final ten minutes.
After a lackluster display in the second half, United made a late push, with Fernandes’ low strike deflected for a corner and Cunha’s powerful shot saved by Robin Roefs.
In the dying seconds, Fernandes found Bryan Mbuemo on the edge of the area, but his attempt was blocked, and the teams ultimately shared the points with two matches remaining in the season.
