USMNTs Agyemang…

Patrick Agyemang, the United States striker, was stretchered off during the first half of Derby County’s 2-0 victory on Monday due to a non-contact injury that necessitates a medical scan.

Following the match against Stoke City, Derby’s manager, John Eustace, indicated that they would need to wait for the results of tests to assess the extent of Agyemang’s injury, which occurred when he landed awkwardly.

“He has gone off to get a scan, so we will await the results,” Eustace stated. “We certainly don’t want to lose any players, especially not to an injury that requires a stretcher.”

“Fingers crossed it’s not as serious as it could be, but we need to wait for the scan results to find out.”

With just two months remaining before the World Cup begins, any significant injury could jeopardize the 25-year-old striker’s chances of making the U.S. squad. Last month, Agyemang scored for the U.S. in a 5-2 defeat against Belgium.

Since joining Derby last summer from MLS side Charlotte FC, Agyemang has made an impressive impact in his first European season, netting 10 goals and providing three assists in 37 Championship outings. He ranks second in Derby’s goalscoring list for the 2025-26 season, behind Carlton Morris.

Even though AS Monaco‘s Folarin Balogun is the current starter for USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, Agyemang was being considered for a backup role alongside players like PSV Eindhoven‘s Ricardo Pepi and Coventry City’s Haji Wright.

The U.S. will kick off Group D play on June 12 against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Pochettino is expected to reveal the final World Cup roster on May 26 ahead of two pre-tournament friendlies against Senegal and Germany.
