St. Pauli did not provide a timeline for when the 25-year-old midfielder might be back on the field.

The injury occurred during a foul in a match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, with scans revealing the full extent of the damage days later.

Since 2021, Sands has made 14 appearances for the United States national team, with his last match being a starting role in a friendly victory over Australia last October.

The United States is co-hosting the upcoming World Cup with Canada and Mexico, starting June 12 against Paraguay.
