The revamped 18-team format of the UEFA Women’s Champions League produced some exciting outcomes as Matchday 2 wrapped up on Thursday.
In an earlier match, Manchester United traveled to face Atlético Madrid, securing a 1-0 victory despite Dominique Jansen receiving a red card in the first half. Atlético also saw a player sent off, as Alexia Fernández was dismissed after a second yellow in the later stages.
In the late games, Arsenal claimed a 2-0 victory over Benfica. The match started to get tense after an own goal by Diana Gomes put Arsenal ahead. However, a crucial finish from Alessia Russo, assisted by Chloe Kelly in the 89th minute, solidified their win.
Real Madrid also enjoyed a solid 2-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain, with goals from Naomie Feller and Alba Redondo in the first half setting them up for victory despite PSG’s second-half resurgence. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich snatched a late 2-1 win against Juventus, with Lea Schüller scoring a dramatic goal in injury time.
