Vinícius Júnior has expressed a firm intention to remain at Real Madrid after his contract expires in 2027, despite acknowledging the challenges he’s faced in the past year.
The Brazilian forward, who has faced criticism from Madrid fans during recent matches, contributed to his team’s impressive 6-1 victory over Monaco in the Champions League by assisting three goals and scoring one.
“The fans have high expectations of the players, and I must perform at my best consistently,” Vinícius shared with TNT Brasil. “This past year has been tough; I haven’t been able to play as I desire, but it’s essential to keep pushing forward… I’m human too. I feel affected by criticism, but every few days, I have the chance to prove myself.”
Madrid has experienced a challenging month.
They lost to rivals Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final during Xabi Alonso’s last match as head coach, followed by a Copa del Rey elimination at the hands of second-tier Albacete 3-2 under new coach Álvaro Arbeloa.
Vinícius stated that the recent victory was crucial for him.
“[This performance] means a lot,” he remarked. “Given the difficulties I’ve faced lately—the coaching change, losing the Super Cup final, and being knocked out of the Copa del Rey.”
“Playing for the biggest club in the world comes with enormous pressure. There are moments when we struggle to comprehend the boos, but we recognize the significance of our team and the caliber of players we have.”
When asked if he aimed to respond to his critics with his performance against Monaco at the Bernabéu, Vinícius replied, “I never aim to retaliate. I know my potential and where I can go. Naturally, it’s disheartening to be booed in my own home.”
“In recent matches, I felt uncomfortable because whenever I made a mistake, the fans booed. They have their right; they pay a lot for tickets. Nonetheless, I don’t fully understand it, but I’m here to keep improving and fighting for this club that has given me so much.”

Some fans feel that Vinícius shares the blame for coach Xabi Alonso’s recent departure, having had disagreements with him during Alonso’s eight-month tenure.
Regarding Alonso’s exit, he commented, “I had no influence on that [Alonso’s dismissal]… There’s nothing I can do. All I can do is give my best on the pitch. I may not always perform technically at my peak, but I always give my all for the team to make everyone comfortable.”
Vinícius, for his part, claims that he’s not anxious about his contract situation, even though negotiations seem to have stalled. Sources recently informed ESPN that discussions might not resume until after the 2026 World Cup.
“I want to stay here for many years,” he stated. “There is a lot of discussion surrounding my contract renewal since I have another year left.”
“We are quite relaxed about it. I trust the [Real Madrid] president [Florentino Perez], and he trusts me. We have a great relationship, and we’ll resolve it in due time. There’s no rush.”
