Wayne Rooneys Son Makes…

Kai Rooney stepped into the spotlight on Friday, making his competitive debut at Manchester United‘s legendary Old Trafford during an FA Youth Cup match.

With father Wayne watching proudly from the stands, Kai came on as a substitute in the under-18s’ thrilling 2-1 extra-time victory over Derby County, propelling his team to the quarterfinals of the esteemed youth tournament.

The 16-year-old winger made his entrance in the 99th minute with the score still level, before goals from Luca Crolla and Chido Obi clinched the win for the team managed by former United player Darren Fletcher.

Wayne enjoyed his son’s first competitive action at Old Trafford from the directors’ box, accompanied by wife Coleen, as well as Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick and members of the senior coaching staff.

Kai previously found the net in a U18 League Cup match last month, although that game was held at the club’s Carrington training facility.

He joined Manchester United’s academy at age 11 in 2020, three years after Wayne departed Old Trafford following a remarkable 13-year tenure, during which he not only captured every major club title but also became the team’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton with 253 goals in 559 appearances.

Earlier in the day, Kai hinted at his participation by sharing a nostalgic Instagram photo of himself as a child, standing on the Old Trafford pitch with his father.
