For the first time since 2006, Wales’ Principality Stadium will host the Community Shield, with Arsenal facing Manchester City on Saturday, 16 August.
With The Weeknd’s After Hours til Dawn tour taking place at Wembley the same day, the season’s traditional curtain-raiser is being played outside London for only the third time since Wembley reopened in 2007.
The Principality Stadium staged the Community Shield, FA Cup final, and EFL Cup final from 2001 to 2007 while Wembley was demolished and rebuilt, with the new Wembley hosting its first FA Cup final in 2007.
In 2012, Villa Park hosted the Community Shield between Manchester City and Chelsea because Wembley was used for Olympic football.
The match was also moved in 2022, when Manchester City faced Liverpool at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, as Wembley hosted the Women’s European Championship final.
Alongside the Principality Stadium and both the old and new Wembley, many venues have staged the fixture over the years, including Stamford Bridge, Highbury, White Hart Lane, Old Trafford, Maine Road, The Den, Molineux, and Filbert Street. The competition was formerly known as the Charity Shield.
