Florian Wirtz was instrumental in Germany’s thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Switzerland during their friendly match at St Jakob Park, contributing two assists in the first half and scoring two goals in the second.
The match kicked off with a bang as Dan Ndoye put Switzerland in front after just 17 minutes. However, Germany responded swiftly, with Jonathan Tah equalizing in the 26th minute following a well-placed corner from Wirtz.
Just before halftime, Breel Embolo regained the lead for Switzerland with a well-timed header in the 41st minute, but Serge Gnabry ensured the teams went into halftime tied at 2-2, scoring from close range during stoppage time.
The second half saw Wirtz give Germany their first lead of the game in the 61st minute with a brilliant right-footed goal from the edge of the box, converting a quick corner situation. Despite Switzerland’s Joel Monteiro leveling the match again shortly after, Wirtz struck the decisive blow five minutes before the end, curling in the winner to secure the victory for the visitors.
Switzerland initially took the lead when Ndoye capitalized on too much space along the left wing, cutting in and finishing neatly past Oliver Baumann. Shortly after, Germany found their equalizer when Wirtz’s corner was headed in by Tah.

Switzerland soon regained the lead through Embolo again, who scored with a header after Silvan Widmer supplied a perfectly weighted ball into the box. Fabian Rieder nearly added a third for the home side, hitting the post with a long-range effort.
Just as the first half was concluding, Wirtz found the space to provide a brilliant pass to Gnabry, leveling the match at 2-2.
After Wirtz’s magnificent goal regained the lead for Germany, he was met with a swift response from Switzerland, as Monteiro equalized again with a stunning shot from 20 yards.
However, Wirtz capped off a stellar performance by creating the winning opportunity, ensuring Germany’s comeback victory.
