World Cup 2026 TV Picks:…

BBC and ITV face a rapid turnaround as they decide who will air each World Cup round-of-32 match in the coming days.

The two UK broadcasters split tournament coverage evenly.

The 72-match group phase finishes in the early hours of Sunday (BST), after which focus shifts to the first knockout round.

That stage begins Sunday at 20:00 BST, with co-hosts Canada taking on South Africa in the first of 16 fixtures.

Immediately after the group stage ends, BBC and ITV executives will start choosing their round-of-32 games.

Once the fixtures are confirmed, the BBC has first pick of the 16 ties, though many matchups won’t be known until all group games are complete.

With the opening knockout match kicking off roughly 15 hours after the groups conclude, both broadcasters will need to make swift changes to their schedules once their picks are set.

A BBC spokesperson said it would be an early start and a long Sunday locking in their selections and arrangements for the first knockout round, but that they’re eager to confirm the lineup.

Round-of-32 matches run from Sunday, 28 June to Saturday, 4 July (BST).
