Like Vozinha, Marc-Vivien Foe was largely unknown before the 1994 World Cup.
Although Cameroon’s 1994 campaign in the USA fell short of their historic 1990 run, Foe emerged as one of their standout performers in his debut tournament.
A memorable display against Brazil drew attention and led to a free move from Cameroon’s Canon Yaounde to French club Lens.
He spent four seasons at Lens, helping the club secure its first league title in 1997-98.
Foe also played for West Ham United, Manchester City and Lyon, winning the French League Cup and contributing to Lyon’s first Ligue 1 crown in 2002.
Tragically, he died in June 2003 after collapsing during a Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia.
