Oliver Rathbone scored his seventh goal of the season, leading playoff-bound Wrexham to a 1-0 victory against Charlton in the Championship.
The Red Dragons held strong under intense pressure in the final moments of the match, extending their winning streak to three games.
Before the match, Charlton had to make a goalkeeper substitution due to a hamstring injury to Thomas Kaminski, who has been a consistent presence in goal this season. He was replaced by Will Mannion.
Charlton also faced an early setback when right-sided centre-back Reece Burke had to leave the field just 11 minutes into the game, with Kenyan international Collins Sichenje stepping in for his home debut after joining from Serbian club Vojvodina during the winter transfer window.
The hosts began the match strongly but were left to regret their inability to finish on a few key opportunities.
Tyreece Campbell set up Luke Berry in the Wrexham penalty area, but Berry’s attempt at a shot was blocked by Issa Kaboré.
Charlton had an even clearer chance in the 28th minute when Sonny Carey’s shot deflected into the path of Harry Clarke, who was just six yards out but could only steer his effort wide of the left post.
Wrexham took advantage of Charlton’s missed opportunities, with Rathbone scoring the match’s only goal in the 30th minute. The midfielder, who recently extended his contract until summer 2028, displayed great skill to give Wrexham the lead.
Nathan Broadhead delivered a cross that was cleared by Charlton captain Lloyd Jones, but Rathbone was quick to respond, executing a low shot into the bottom right corner from just outside the penalty area.
The south-east London team hasn’t scored a first-half goal at home since November 22, an ongoing streak of nine league games.
Just four minutes into the second half, a perfectly timed block by Charlton defender Kayne Ramsay denied Lewis O’Brien a close-range opportunity following a pass from Kieffer Moore.
Charlton struggled to create chances early in the second half until Campbell headed over a cross from Lyndon Dykes in the 68th minute.
Referee Farai Hallam waved away calls for a penalty when Clarke went down in the box, while Mannion made a save on a shot from substitute Josh Windass.
As Charlton pressed forward in search of an equalizer, Miles Leaburn volleyed over a cross from Carey at Arthur Okonkwo’s near post, while Sichenje also sent a shot over from a corner.
In a crucial moment just before injury time, Wrexham goalkeeper Okonkwo made a fantastic save, diving to his right to deflect Carey’s powerful shot out for a corner.
