Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has received FIFA’s approval to change his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
FIFA’s Change of Association Platform confirmed on Monday that Okonkwo’s one-time switch had been finalized.

Okonkwo, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, has previously represented England at various youth levels, including under-16 through to under-18.
Now 24, he bolsters Nigeria’s goalkeeping options, which are currently headed by Stanley Nwabali. Nigeria recently missed out on qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in North America, marking their second consecutive absence from the tournament.
The director of communications for the Nigerian Football Federation, Dr. Ademola Olajire, expressed enthusiasm about Okonkwo’s commitment, stating, “The NFF is always excited to welcome another talented player into the Nigerian squad.” He told ESPN earlier this year that, “Arthur Okonkwo is a promising prospect, and our coaching staff is pleased to have additional choices in the goalkeeping position.”
Having progressed through the youth system at Arsenal, Okonkwo joined Wrexham from Crewe, initially on loan, prior to the 2023-24 season, contributing to the club’s remarkable back-to-back promotions to the second-tier Championship.
