Wrexham marked their UEFA Women’s Champions League bow with a thrilling 4-2 win over FC Pyunik in the first qualifying round semi-final at the Racecourse.
Jenny Sugarman’s team will meet Latvia’s Riga—4-1 winners against Glentoran—in Saturday’s first qualifying round final.
The match was Wrexham’s first in European competition after last season’s maiden Adran Premier title, and delivered Wales’ first Champions League victory since Cardiff Met in 2019-20.
Pyunik went ahead on 12 minutes when Susanna Badalya capitalised on a loose clearance from goalkeeper Liz Craven, firing in from outside the box.
Wrexham hit back immediately: Faye Knox powered down the left and crossed for Katie Barker to level, settling the home side. Barker nearly added a second, but Pyunik stopper Amber Lockwood saved well.
Five minutes after the interval, Wrexham took the lead as Lili Jones’ right-footed strike from the edge of the area took a slight deflection and found the top corner.
The hosts pushed for another and made it 3-1 on 62 minutes when Lockwood spilled Jones’ effort and Ava Suckley tapped in.
Pyunik stayed in the contest as Luiza Ghazaryan blasted past Craven, but after Knox missed a good chance for a fourth, new signing Natasha Thomas sealed the landmark win late on—and she also rattled the bar in added time.
