Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has expressed his support for an expanded playoff system in the Championship, asserting that the division is filled with clubs that possess Premier League potential.
There are plans in motion to raise the number of teams competing for promotion from four to six starting next season, with a decision on the matter expected at an extraordinary general meeting next month.
While there are concerns from the Premier League regarding a potential decrease in quality, Parkinson, whose team currently sits sixth and will face third-placed Ipswich in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday, remains unconcerned.
“This division is extremely competitive; just look at how tight it is,” he stated.
“The competitiveness of this league means there are numerous teams in the running, and we are among them.”
“Look at clubs that have been promoted and established themselves in the Premier League, like Sunderland. They’ve strategically invested their TV revenue and are now in a solid position, proving that it can be done.”

“There are many potentially massive clubs in the Championship that may have more support than some teams currently in the Premier League.”
Parkinson is unfazed by the impact of cup matches on their promotion aspirations and is keen to lead the Welsh club into the fifth round for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
“While it can be a distraction, it’s one we welcome,” he noted.
“We often talk about the magic of the FA Cup, and when these matches come up, I want the team to savor the experience. I hope we approach the game with a positive mindset and intent on performing well.”
