Starting next season, all Women’s Super League clubs will be permitted to sell alcohol for consumption in the stands. WSL Football, the league’s governing body, has lifted the rule that banned drinking within sight of the pitch.
The move, approved by shareholders, follows two seasons of successful pilots across the WSL and WSL 2. In the 2025-26 season, 20 clubs took part in the trials at 29 venues, covering 190 matches across England’s top two tiers.
Providing alcohol remains optional, and clubs can decide to offer it at some home venues and not others. On Monday, Everton and newly promoted Charlton Athletic confirmed they will continue to serve alcohol at games.
The Sporting Events Control of Alcohol Act still prohibits drinking while facing the pitch at professional men’s football matches in England, Scotland and Wales.
