Spain experienced frustration in their final home match ahead of the World Cup, settling for a 1-1 draw against Iraq at the Estadio de Riazor in La Coruña.
Ferran Torres gave Spain an early lead in the 16th minute, but Iraq equalized before the half-hour mark with a spectacular goal from Merchas Doski.
With aspirations of claiming their second World Cup title, Spain faced a formidable challenge from Iraq, who entered the match brimming with confidence after qualifying for their first World Cup since 1986.
Spain, missing key players like Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Pedri, and David Raya, struggled to penetrate Iraq’s defense during a lackluster second half. They will be eager to enhance their performance ahead of their World Cup opener.
The reigning European champions are set for one final test against Peru in Puebla, Mexico, before their tournament debut against Cape Verde on June 15. Meanwhile, Iraq prepares to face Venezuela before launching their World Cup campaign against Norway on June 16.

Spain quickly got into rhythm, testing Iraq’s Ahmed Basil for the first time when he had to deflect Alex Baena’s goal-bound shot over the bar for a corner.
The hosts struck first in the 16th minute when Iraq overcommitted, allowing a swift counter-attack. Torres weaved past two defenders and fired a low shot that slid past Basil.
Iraq, despite defending for the majority of the game, stunned Spain with an equalizer in the 28th minute. Doski, positioned on the left edge of the penalty area, looked up to see Joan García off his line and expertly chipped the ball into the net.
As Spain searched for a second goal to regain their lead, Basil was once again instrumental, brilliantly tipping Torres’ attempt over the bar.
After the interval, La Roja created the first chance with Jon Martín rising highest from a corner, but his header missed the target.
Following the equalizer, Spain struggled to create significant opportunities, growing increasingly frustrated by their rivals. A cross fell to Eric García, who fired over the bar from close range.
Spain’s lack of cutting edge became apparent as Yéremy Pino attempted a long-range effort that soared well over the target.
