York City has pledged to support midfielder Hiram Boateng throughout the ongoing investigations and is committed to aiding any review of the events following their promotion-clinching draw against Rochdale.
Greater Manchester Police have announced they are reviewing video and CCTV footage regarding a “possible assault” that occurred in the tumultuous aftermath of Saturday’s National League title decider at the Crown Oil Arena.
Social media footage appears to show an altercation involving Boateng and a supporter during the pitch invasion.
The incident unfolded after York secured a dramatic 1-1 draw, leading to their promotion back to the English Football League after a decade, with a last-minute goal from Josh Stones in the 13th minute of stoppage time.
A pitch invasion had already occurred earlier in stoppage time when Rochdale, who would have overtaken York for promotion with a win, took the lead in a thrilling finish.
In a statement released on Monday, York described the match’s conclusion as a “unique emotional rollercoaster” and recognized the difficulties in “policing and securing a game of such significance.”

The club emphasized: “The safety of players, staff, officials, and fans must always be the top priority, and it is crucial to acknowledge all those in the stadium who worked to maintain that safety.
“In the coming days, it will be important to reflect on and assess the circumstances surrounding the end of the game, what transpired, and what lessons can be learned.
“As a club, we are dedicated to assisting with any review and will support all of our players and staff in their contributions. YCFC will stand by Hiram throughout all proceedings.”
