York City have named former Crawley Town manager Scott Lindsey as their new head coach, just a day after dismissing title-winning boss Stuart Maynard.
Maynard, who guided the Minstermen to the National League title last season, was let go on Sunday due to what the board called a “difference in direction and vision for the football club.”
Lindsey, 54, took Crawley up to League One during his first stint in 2024, but his return spell ended in March after a 10-match winless run in League Two left them a point above the relegation zone.
His first match in charge of York will be an EFL Cup preliminary tie on Monday, 3 August, against his former club.
Maynard had been appointed last August after owners Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla dismissed Adam Hinshelwood, who had the team second in 2024-25 and unbeaten through five games. That decision ultimately paid off as Maynard secured the National League crown with 108 points, ending the club’s 10-year absence from the EFL. York clinched the title with a stoppage-time equaliser at Rochdale, denying Dale the sole automatic promotion place.
York say Lindsey—who has also managed Swindon Town and MK Dons—brings “a vast wealth of experience across the EFL.” He will be assisted by Joao Alves, while Gary Elphick remains as first-team coach.
The League Two season begins for York with a home fixture against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, 15 August.
