Bucheon FC 1995 has made history by earning promotion to K League 1 after a spectacular finish to the season. Lee Young-min’s team dominated Suwon FC at Castle Park, marking their first ascent to the top tier.

Positive Highlights
Aside from League and Cup champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, it could be argued that Bucheon FC 1995 had the most successful season in Korean football. After finishing 8th in K League 2 last season, they rose to third place in 2025, achieving their best-ever position. Their journey included a Cup run that reached the semi-finals, capped off by defeating Suwon FC 4-2 on aggregate for their first ever promotion. The last team from Bucheon to play in the top-flight now plays in Jeju, leaving fans elated after such a long wait.
Ending the season with 67 points from 39 matches, Bucheon fell just five points short of the more affluent Suwon Bluewings (who did not achieve promotion). The K League 2 is renowned for its competitiveness, where teams can lose form rapidly and fluctuate in the standings. However, Bucheon defied these odds, sitting atop the table after the first four weeks and maintaining a playoff position until week 18, finally clinching third place. From week 18 to the season’s conclusion, Bucheon never dropped below fourth place, remaining in third for a total of 16 rounds.
Preparing for their K League 1 debut soon.

What set Bucheon apart from Suwon Bluewings and former K League 2 promotion contenders was their unwavering resolve. They approached the match against Suwon FC with confidence and form, knowing deep down that this was their moment. Rodrigo Bassani made a significant impact in the snow-delayed first leg, and he was unstoppable in the second leg. Witnessing the final moments with the fans was emotional; after years spent trudging through the lower tiers—including finishing at the bottom in 2021—promotion was a triumphant moment for everyone involved.
Areas for Improvement
While Bucheon’s season was nearly flawless, there are still aspects to address. Despite their promotion to K League 1, they ended with a goal difference of just +10, the same as Busan IPark in eighth place. Bucheon netted 59 goals—only seven fewer than champions Incheon United—but conceded 49. Ironically, this defensive record was still better than Suwon’s, who placed second but remains concerning against their other opponents.
On 12 occasions, Bucheon surrendered multiple goals, while achieving 14 clean sheets (with four coming in their final four matches). Although this didn’t hinder their recent success, the quality of competition will rise in the new season. Incheon, also promoted, had a goals-against record of just 30. With the offseason ahead, there is a valuable opportunity for Bucheon to enhance their defensive strategies over the winter.

Young Player of the Year
The future of central midfielder Park Hyun-bin with Bucheon FC remains uncertain. With the potential to become a key player for the Korean national team, a transfer may be on the horizon. After progressing through Incheon United’s youth ranks, Park moved to Bucheon in March 2024, quickly becoming a staple in the midfield alongside Takahashi Kazuki, making 28 appearances that season.
In the 2025 season, Park elevated his game, featuring in 34 matches and starting only twice on the bench. He completed 90 minutes on 18 occasions but had to sit out the matchup against Hwaseong FC in week 39 to preserve his health for the playoffs. However, he experienced his share of time away from the pitch as well, collecting nine yellow cards and one red throughout the year, resulting in four games of suspension. His combative style and ability to disrupt play make him a valuable asset in this league.
