Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza has established himself as one of La Liga’s most reliable players over the past 18 months. It appears he may be poised for a lucrative transfer next summer; however, both Celta and Barcelona are unlikely to benefit financially from his departure.
Mingueza, who frequently operates as a wing-back on both the right and left flanks, has shown impressive skill on the ball, becoming integral to Celta’s build-up play and an effective passer in the attacking phase. Despite being absent from the last three squads, he was a regular presence last season, earning four caps during four consecutive call-ups.
Mingueza Expected to Depart on a Free Transfer
With his contract expiring next summer, Diario AS reports that Mingueza is likely to leave on a free transfer. Celta made an offer to extend his contract last season, but Mingueza’s camp countered, leaving little room for negotiation. Currently, it appears Mingueza is likely to consider the “numerous offers” that have come in for him, with clubs like Olympique Marseille, Como, Atalanta, AC Milan, Aston Villa, and West Ham United and Newcastle United also expressing interest.

Barcelona Set to Miss Out on Mingueza Fee
Barcelona has been closely monitoring Mingueza’s development, as his contract includes a 50% sell-on clause. Last season, Celta rejected several offers, and Barcelona considered activating his €20 million release clause by paying €10 million to bring him back to the club. However, that move currently seems unlikely.
At 26 years old, it’s understandable if Mingueza is looking to maximize his financial security with his next contract. While he likely earned a substantial salary at both Barcelona and Celta, this next deal is expected to be the most lucrative of his career.
