Head coach Leanne Ross is confident that Glasgow City’s determination, both on and off the pitch, can lead them to the quarter-finals of the Europa Cup.
The team has traveled to Lisbon for the second leg of their last-16 tie against Sporting Club, which currently stands at 1-1.

“We’re performing well to ensure we continue our fight on this front,” Ross stated from the team’s training facility.
“This reflects the strong foundation we have at our club, as well as the dedication and energy of everyone working behind the scenes to give our players the best possible chance to succeed.”
City’s impressive 6-1 victory against Montrose on Sunday helped them maintain a six-point lead over Hearts at the top of the SWPL table.
With five different players scoring at Links Park, Ross sees this as a sign of the healthy competition within a squad eager not only to clinch the SWPL title for the first time since 2023, but also to make significant progress in Europe.

“There’s a strong sense of confidence in the squad right now,” Ross noted.
“The players are eager to be part of this team, and they understand that performing well in both games and training is essential. They challenge and motivate each other while truly enjoying their football at the moment.
“It’s been a fantastic start to the season, but that’s just what it is—a start. We need to keep honing what we’re doing well and work on the areas where we can improve.”
Ross also mentioned that they plan to watch Scotland’s men’s crucial World Cup qualifier during their time in Portugal on Tuesday.

“We’ll have a training session this evening but we hope to return in time for kick-off to support the boys,” she added. “We’re all rooting for a result that takes us to the World Cup.”
