Real Madrid stars…

The major highlight in Madrid on Saturday was the progress in Real Madrid’s negotiations with Vinicius Jr. regarding a contract extension.

After hitting a stalemate in February, both sides reportedly decided to put their differences aside and pursue an agreement, with both the player and the club viewing it as the logical next step.

However, just when it seemed the renewal saga for Vinicius was nearing a resolution, COPE released an update that dampens the optimism significantly.

Stalemate Continues

As reported by COPE, Vinicius’ representatives have indicated that there have been no new developments concerning his renewal with Real Madrid in recent days, and the situation remains unchanged.

They emphasized that there has been no communication with the club since before the summer, and no date has been scheduled for further negotiations. So, the situation remains status quo.

The player’s camp also suggests that the reality of the situation is “not as rosy” as it has been depicted by the club in the media, indicating that discussions have been put on hold until summer.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that Vinicius’ contract runs through 2027, and he previously rejected an extension offer from Real Madrid, citing it as financially inadequate.

The club maintains that no player is above the institution and will not bend to individual demands, while Vinicius and his camp stand firm in their expectations.

While there’s no immediate urgency for talks, Real Madrid will face pressure as the next summer transfer window approaches, at which point Vinicius will have just one year remaining on his contract.

This could very well align with the player’s strategy to secure the salary increase he desires.
