In an unexpected development, the board of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has successfully persuaded sporting director Andreas Schicker to remain with the Bundesliga club. The interim board, led by Christoph Henssler and Frank Engelhardt, announced Schicker’s decision on Saturday, with all parties involved sharing statements regarding the matter.
VfL Wolfsburg’s intense pursuit of Schicker had created expectations that the Austrian would soon depart. It had only recently been reported that it was just a matter of the two German clubs settling on a transfer fee. High-level negotiations between Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim took place earlier in the week.

According to Kicker, the pivotal factor in Schicker’s decision was the veto from interim board co-chairman Christoph Henssler. This marks a significant win for the faction within the club aiming to sever ties with controversial agent Roger Wittmann. Henssler, a former ultras member, is seen as a representative of the fan community.
“I am thrilled that Andreas Schicker wants to continue on the path to success for TSG,” Henssler stated in a club announcement released on Saturday. “He has been instrumental in shaping this club.”
“We have had open and meaningful discussions with Dietmar Hopp at the shareholder level,” added Henssler’s co-chairman Engelhardt. “After what has undoubtedly been a turbulent few weeks, it is crucial for all of us to restore stability, continuity, and calm.”
Statements were also released by Wolfsburg, Schicker, and club patron Dietmar Hopp. Wolfsburg expressed gratitude to Hoffenheim for the “constructive discussions” and acknowledged they “respected Hoffenheim’s decision not to let him go.”

“I am honored by the interest from other clubs,” Schicker remarked in his statement. “It is a nice affirmation of the work we are doing here in Kraichgau. However, the TSG shareholders have provided me with a clear perspective on continuing to succeed here.
