Injuries for players are typically disclosed via official club announcements or during a manager’s press conference.

However, a scheduled appearance by Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha to switch on the Christmas lights in Altrincham has raised concerns among fans regarding his health.

The Brazilian forward was set to participate in the event on Saturday night, alongside Sam Aston, who portrays Chesney in Coronation Street, just two days before United faces Everton in the Premier League on Monday.

Yet, mere hours before the festive celebration, Visit Altrincham announced on Facebook that Cunha would not be attending “due to medical reasons,” stating that he “had an accident in training.”

As of now, United has not officially disclosed any additional information or clarified whether this will impact Cunha’s availability for the Everton match.

However, club insiders have sought to ease worries about Cunha potentially being sidelined for a prolonged period.

According to sources, he sustained a minor injury during training, and the situation is being treated as low-risk.

It’s also notable that this event was not organized in collaboration with the club.

Cunha, who joined United for £62.5 million from Wolves over the summer, has been instrumental in the team’s recent success, as Ruben Amorim’s squad remains unbeaten in their last five matches.

He netted his first goal for the club in a 4-2 victory against Brighton in October and participated in both of Brazil’s recent friendlies during the international break.

On Friday, head coach Amorim confirmed that striker Benjamin Sesko would be out until mid-next month due to a knee injury.

If Cunha is unavailable for the game on Monday, it would necessitate a significant reshuffle for Amorim.

Mason Mount could step in, while Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee may also make their Premier League starting debuts this season.

This situation also opens the door for a potential call-up for England Under-20 international Shea Lacey, who has been standout in United’s Premier League 2 squad this season.
