Your Opinions: Take the Leap

Middlesbrough announced on Monday the appointment of Kim Hellberg as their new head coach.

The 37-year-old succeeds Rob Edwards, who departed to join Wolves earlier this month.

What are the fans saying about the new appointment? Here are some reactions:

Andrew: Although it feels a bit risky to bring in only Boro’s second foreign manager, I’m hopeful that his experience with attacking football will be exactly what we need.

Joe: For years, Middlesbrough has needed a manager focused on an attack-minded style. The worst-case scenario is another year in the Championship, which would allow the new manager to assess his needs in the transfer window. Best-case? We make it back to the Premier League!

John: Boro and Steve Gibson have faced long struggles in the Championship. Persisting with the same approach expecting different results is foolish. Hellberg poses a high risk for both himself and Boro as they’re currently in second place; anything less than making the play-offs will be seen as a failure. Hellberg’s youth and high potential come with significant pressure, but we must embrace that risk.

Jonathan: As a Hammarby fan, I can say we played some brilliant football under Kim, particularly the October away win against Malmo, which was hailed as one of the best performances in Sweden’s Allsvenskan. We narrowly missed the league title against a record-breaking team, so I’m confident he will thrive at Middlesbrough and value its supporters.

Ross: This is a bold yet sensible choice for Boro. We must grant him the time to make an impact, and it would be fantastic if he could guide us back to promotion this year.

Liam: The fans need to rally behind him. He’s found success in previous roles, and while he lacks experience in the EFL, we still have Adi Viveash around to mentor him.

Veronica: I believe Hellberg is the right fit for the job. I have complete faith in his capabilities, and if the players respond to him, we can achieve great success.
