Tottenham faced a rough start in their Premier League home match against Fulham, conceding two goals within the first six minutes, prompting boos from the home crowd directed at goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario due to a costly mistake.
After going down to a deflected shot from Kenny Tete just four minutes in, things deteriorated rapidly for Tottenham. Vicario, trying to navigate out of trouble near the touchline, handed Fulham an opportunity.
Harry Wilson took advantage, curling the ball into an empty net from a distance, causing frustration among the Tottenham supporters who turned their ire towards the Spurs keeper.
This was the earliest that Tottenham had ever conceded two goals in a Premier League match at home, with just 2 minutes and 16 seconds separating the goals, leaving the team with a significant challenge against Marco Silva’s side.
“Vicario is getting serious criticism from his own fans,” noted former Arsenal striker Alan Smith on Sky Sports. “He completely misjudged his clearance. What a shocking start.”
“It’s unusual to hear booing directed at a player so early, especially a goalkeeper. This could be a tough match for the Spurs players,” he added.
Tottenham entered this match following a heavy 4-1 defeat against Arsenal and a 5-3 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League earlier in the week.
