West Ham United is unlikely to take disciplinary action against Lucas Paqueta following his red card during the match against Liverpool on Sunday.
Paqueta first received a yellow card for protesting a foul by Niclas Fullkrug on Dominik Szoboszlai in the 83rd minute, while Liverpool was leading 1-0.
Shortly after, he received a second yellow for continuing to argue with the referee, despite his teammates’ attempts to calm him down.
West Ham then conceded another goal in stoppage time, allowing Liverpool to secure a 2-0 victory at the London Stadium.
While Paqueta’s actions have drawn criticism from various figures within the club, there are no indications that he will face punishment.
Instead, the Hammers plan to provide the midfielder with access to psychological support, according to The Guardian.
Paqueta had previously been under investigation by the Football Association for alleged betting violations, which could have led to a lifetime ban. However, an independent commission cleared him in July.
He has since expressed frustration with football authorities for not providing the necessary psychological support.
As a result of his red card, Paqueta will be suspended for West Ham’s upcoming match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday.
The 28-year-old has been a key player for the Hammers this season, contributing three goals in 12 league appearances.
