Former PSG Star Could Push…

The transfer of Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG to Manchester City has introduced complications for James Trafford, who recently joined the squad in the summer transfer window.

With Donnarumma’s extensive Champions League experience and his knack for excelling in high-pressure situations, Trafford may be contemplating his future options.

In July, Manchester City invested £27 million to bring Trafford back from Burnley, as reported by ESPN. However, as the summer transfer window closed, PSG’s reluctance to meet Donnarumma’s salary demands made him available, prompting City to act swiftly to secure the Italian goalkeeper.

Now that Donnarumma has taken the role of the first-choice goalkeeper, rumors suggest that a Premier League club is already monitoring Trafford’s situation ahead of the winter transfer window.

Jack Gaughan of The Daily Mail reports that Trafford is already contemplating a departure from Manchester City, just five months after his £27 million transfer.

Initially brought in as City’s primary goalkeeper, Trafford has since been demoted to a backup role following Donnarumma’s arrival on transfer deadline day.

Since then, Donnarumma has been the starting goalkeeper for every Premier League match. This news follows a report from TEAMtalk revealing last month that Newcastle is aggressively pursuing Trafford for the January transfer window, as playing time has been scarce for him at Manchester City.

Eddie Howe’s team has been monitoring the 23-year-old for several seasons and nearly secured his services during the summer; however, Trafford ultimately decided to return to Manchester City.

In September, former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce stated on talkSPORT that Trafford may benefit from Donnarumma’s presence, considering it provides exposure to a Champions League and European Cup winner.

“You might feel a bit disappointed, but you’re getting an exceptional goalkeeper,” Pearce commented. “If I were advising him, I’d suggest viewing Donnarumma’s arrival as a positive opportunity—an opportunity to learn from two outstanding role models.”
