Christian Heidel, the sporting director of Mainz 05, is optimistic that they have already completed their search for a new head coach, with an announcement expected in the coming days, as reported by
Kicker
.
Currently sitting at the bottom of the Bundesliga with only one victory, Mainz recently parted ways with former coach Bo Henriksen by mutual consent.
Henriksen, last year’s Bundesliga Coach of the Year, struggled to help his team adapt to the demands of domestic and European competitions this season after leading Mainz to the Conference League last year.

In the interim, U23 coach Benjamin Hofmann is overseeing the team. Hofmann will be in charge for their upcoming match against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday evening.
Yet, sporting director Heidel believes the search for a new coach is effectively over.
“We are very, very confident that we have already found a new coach,” said Heidel. It appears they have reached out to someone available and, importantly, Heidel is looking for a candidate with “a different coaching profile than Bo Henriksen.” He added: “It was about the profile we need in the current situation.”
In other words, they are seeking someone experienced in relegation battles.
According to
Sky Germany
, former Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer is a potential candidate.
The Swiss coach is recognized for leading Union Berlin to Bundesliga promotion and subsequently into the Champions League and Europa Conference League in subsequent seasons.

Initial discussions with Fischer have already occurred, though other candidates are also being considered. Regardless of the options, Christian Heidel remains confident they have found the right person for the job.
