In one instance, Bri asked: “What’s happening with Matt O’Riley? We successfully signed him, and he’s a talented player, so why isn’t he playing more?”

According to BBC Radio Sussex’s Johnny Cantor:
The club was excited to have Matt O’Riley on board, but his adaptation was hindered by a long-term injury he suffered just minutes into his debut against Crawley Town.
After recovering and starting the season in the first eleven, O’Riley has found himself primarily on the bench. Every player aspires to play, but Brighton’s coach Fabian Hurzeler couldn’t promise him a regular starting place given the depth of talent in the central midfield and forward positions. With a sizable squad, the option of a loan move to Marseille seemed beneficial for everyone involved.
O’Riley’s playing time in France has been restricted recently due to a minor injury, but Marseille appears interested in converting the loan into a permanent deal. The offer they make could play a crucial role in this decision.

While circumstances in football can shift swiftly, a prompt return for O’Riley seems improbable. Nevertheless, the manager confirmed that he is still considered a Seagulls player and that his development is being monitored.
