Nantes have officially signed Deiver Machado, a 32-year-old left-back from Lens, as confirmed by both clubs in a recent announcement. The Colombian defender joins Les Canaris as a “joker” signing, a provision that allows French teams to acquire players outside the transfer window, provided they are either free agents or currently contracted to another French club. Reports indicate that Nantes has reached a €400k agreement with Lens for Machado, who is in the final months of his contract with the Artois outfit. He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Nantes.
Machado faced limited playing opportunities at Lens, especially after the club secured Metz’s left-back Matthieu Udol this summer. Conversely, Nantes was in urgent need of a stronger presence in their left defense, as Nicolas Cozza, currently on loan from Wolfsburg, has not been able to meet Luis Castro’s expectations. Additionally, Machado’s move is also motivated by his desire for regular playing time to enhance his chances of being selected for Colombia’s squad in the upcoming World Cup. He will don the No. 27 jersey for Les Canaris.
