Waynne Phillips, a former midfielder for Wrexham, believes the team remains competitive in the Championship this season, despite their recent loss to Hull City.
The Red Dragons saw their impressive nine-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Wednesday night, as goals from Kyle Joseph and Oli McBurnie overshadowed Kieffer Moore’s missed penalty at the MKM Stadium.

Even though Wrexham didn’t perform at their best against Hull, Phillips is optimistic that Phil Parkinson’s squad can still contend for a play-off position as the season progresses.
“My opinion on the 95 minutes of football at Hull remains unchanged. While I’m disappointed with their performance, I still believe they’re in the hunt with several other teams in the Championship,” Phillips said in an interview with BBC Radio Wales.
“They will review their performance and identify areas for improvement from this match.”
“I’m sure Phil Parkinson shares my perspective; they won’t overreact to a win or a loss.”

He’ll now focus on selecting a team that can secure a victory on Saturday at the Racecourse. It’s all about how a team responds, just as Hull did tonight.”
After an unchanged starting line-up from their previous 1-1 draw against Preston North End, Parkinson regretted the lack of energy his team displayed against Hull.
Phillips anticipates that the Wrexham manager will implement several changes for Saturday’s match against Watford at the Stok Cae Ras (15:00 GMT).
“There are times when they might feel they played better but came away with a loss or draw, but they can’t argue with the result tonight,” he noted.

“The atmosphere in the Wrexham changing room will be downcast, but they need to move on.”
Regarding possible lineup changes, Phillips remarked: “Every player will be anxious about their spot in the starting eleven for Saturday. I expect to see changes to reinvigorate the team.”
