Real Madrid Interested in Signing Wirtz
Wirtz has shown some promise. The 22-year-old German talent has had sporadic moments of brilliance for Arne Slot’s squad but is still a far cry from the level that led Liverpool to invest up to £116 million for his transfer.
Despite assurances from Slot that he would serve as the central playmaker, Wirtz has been utilized in various attacking positions, including the left wing. Unfortunately for Liverpool, he is yet to score or provide an assist in the Premier League.
Amidst this, there is growing anticipation in the Spanish media regarding Real Madrid’s potential pursuit of Wirtz, with reports suggesting that Liverpool may already be considering his exit.
LFC Open to Accepting €110m for Wirtz
While this may be somewhat optimistic, especially considering Wirtz signed a five-year contract with Liverpool, Defensa Central has claimed that the club is open to letting him go for a fee of €110 million. This comes after they spent approximately €137 million on him last summer.
“The English club paid €150 million for Wirtz last summer, but they are now reportedly preparing to sell him,” the report states. “In fact, they are said to be willing to lower their asking price to €110 million.”

Wirtz Needs to Step Up
Real Madrid’s interest stems from the success Xabi Alonso had in nurturing Wirtz’s talent during their time together at Bayer Leverkusen, where they won the 2023/24 Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in an unbeaten season.
Prior to Wirtz’s move to Liverpool, Madrid had also shown interest in acquiring him, but Slot managed to convince the playmaker that his future lay at Anfield.
While it seems unlikely that Liverpool will part ways with Wirtz so soon after signing him, it’s clear that he has not yet met expectations. Slot must find a way to harness Wirtz’s potential quickly; otherwise, scrutiny will undoubtedly increase.
