Andreas Christensen has experienced a significant knee injury at a pivotal moment when his future with FC Barcelona seemed uncertain.
The Danish defender’s current contract with the club is set to expire in June 2026, which means he will soon enter the last six months of his agreement.

Due to a partial ACL rupture, he faces a lengthy recovery period, spending four of those six months sidelined and unable to showcase his skills to help secure his position or attract interest from other clubs.
Laporta Advocates for Christensen’s Contract Renewal
In light of these developments, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is reportedly keen on offering Christensen a one-year contract extension, as shared by Ramon Salmurri on Catalunya Radio.
Although there is some dissent regarding this decision within the club, Laporta remains firm, expressing a desire not to ‘abandon’ Christensen during this challenging period.

It’s worth noting that Christensen has consistently expressed his desire to remain at Barça beyond his current contract.
Despite limited playing time, primarily due to fitness issues, the 29-year-old center-back is still highly regarded at the club for his talent and professionalism.
Therefore, it would not be surprising to see Barcelona propose a one-year extension to the former Chelsea star, although it may require a revision of his salary.
Since joining the Catalan club in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer, Christensen has faced numerous injuries, resulting in a total of 81 missed matches.
This history of injuries has undoubtedly led to some hesitation within the club regarding a contract extension. Nevertheless, Laporta appears to support the idea of extending his contract for an additional year.
