Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I believe we should have secured a result, but ultimately we have no one to blame but ourselves.”

“It was a frustrating match. The first half presented opportunities for us, but we failed to capitalize, and I was disappointed with our display by halftime. The second half showed improvement; I felt we controlled the game in terms of possession and chances. The first goal was crucial—if we had scored it, the win would have been within reach.”

“I always take responsibility first and then assess the players’ performance. I thought we played well today. I’m not here to claim we were far from our best.”

“Had we won, everyone would be praising our performance, but given the outcome, we will face criticism. We need to do more to secure victories like this.”

  • Newcastle has won only one of their last 12 away league matches (D4 L7), with their only victory being a 4-1 triumph over Everton in November. Since their first game in this stretch—a 1-4 loss to Aston Villa on April 19th—they are the only ever-present Premier League side with fewer away points than the Magpies (7), with Wolves trailing at 4.

  • In this match, Newcastle took 16 shots—making it their second-highest tally recorded (since 2003-04) in a Premier League game at Old Trafford (21 in May 2024). This also ties for their highest number of attempts in a Premier League match without scoring during the 2025-26 season (also 16 against Aston Villa in August).
