Manchester United is set to explore options in La Liga in the coming weeks, but persuading Atletico Madrid to part with Conor Gallagher will be a challenging task.
Gallagher has faced a difficult season so far, as he himself has acknowledged. He has struggled to secure a regular spot in Diego Simeone’s lineup, who has favored players like Pablo Barrios, Koke Resurreccion, and summer newcomer Johnny Cardoso—when the latter is fit.

As a result, rumors of a potential exit in January have begun to surface. Manchester United is currently leading the race for Gallagher, but Atletico is not willing to let him go easily. According to ED, Atletico has clarified that they will reject any loan proposals and will only entertain a permanent transfer.

Manchester United had hoped to secure Gallagher on a temporary basis until the end of the season, before deciding on a permanent deal. However, Atletico has reiterated that only a full transfer will be considered, aiming to use any funds from Gallagher’s sale to acquire a replacement.

Gallagher’s price tag is within Manchester United’s reach
While Manchester United may have some hesitations about a permanent deal for Gallagher, his asking price appears manageable. Reports indicate that Atletico is willing to accept offers as low as €30m for the England international, even though they paid €10m more for him just 18 months ago.
The next few weeks will be crucial in determining Gallagher’s future. A move back to England, particularly to a club as prominent as Manchester United, could enhance his prospects of being selected for next summer’s World Cup—but for that to happen, a transfer must be finalized.
