Getafe Targets Real Betis…

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has been visibly frustrated in recent weeks, openly expressing his dissatisfaction with the current squad and calling for reinforcements during the upcoming winter transfer window. This plea came before the unfortunate news of his star striker suffering a knee injury that necessitates surgery.

President Angel Torres has downplayed speculation surrounding Bordalas potentially leaving the club amid interest from Crystal Palace. However, Bordalas appeared quite frustrated in his last press conference of the year following the team’s fourth consecutive defeat. The news that Borja Mayoral may be sidelined for an extended period likely felt like a crushing blow.

Borja Mayoral Undergoes Surgery

On Tuesday, Mayoral underwent surgery for a knee issue, which is different from the meniscus surgery he had two seasons ago. According to Marca, there is currently no estimated recovery time as the club waits for post-surgery evaluations to determine the extent of the damage. However, it is anticipated that Mayoral will be unavailable for several weeks.

Los Azulones are anxiously awaiting a full diagnosis, as this situation leaves them without a natural striker. If the absence extends to four months or more, they could potentially invoke the emergency injury rule for one of the higher earners on the roster. For now, Bordalas may have to rely on B-team forward Joselu Perez or improvise with Adrian Liso or Juanmi as makeshift options in the striker role.

This setback has prompted Getafe to take action, with reports indicating that they are close to finalizing a deal for Real Betis forward Chimy Avila. Betis is looking to offload Avila, and the 31-year-old has reportedly indicated his willingness to make the move. However, it remains uncertain whether Getafe currently has the salary cap space needed to register him.

Betis is also in search of a forward this winter and requires additional salary cap space to facilitate new signings. The departures of Avila and Cedric Bakambu are believed to be crucial for Sporting Director Manu Fajardo to maneuver within the transfer market.
