Several Premier League players who were nearing a one-match suspension due to accumulating four yellow cards will be relieved to discover they are now on more secure footing as they prepare to play on Saturday.
Up to this point in the season, a player received a one-match ban for earning five yellow cards in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches.

However, starting on January 3, following the 19-match mark, the threshold for suspension rises to 10 yellow cards. Yet, the penalties become stricter: players who reach 10 yellow cards before their team’s 32nd match will face a two-match ban instead of just one.
Any yellow cards accumulated before January 3 will be counted towards this new phase, but players currently on four yellow cards are no longer at immediate risk of suspension until they reach nine yellow cards.
If any player collects 15 yellow cards throughout the season, they will incur a three-match suspension.
