Maintaining form is Poshs…

Luke Williams, the manager of Peterborough United, has emphasized the importance of staying grounded amid a six-match unbeaten streak, which includes five victories.

When Williams took over in late October, Posh were at the bottom of League One. Now, they sit in 11th place, five points above the relegation zone and only six points away from the play-off spots.

“When I first came in, our goal difference was a troubling minus 12; now it’s zero,” Williams told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. “We were five points below the relegation line, and now we’re five points above it. It’s a new year and a fresh start, and we are in the middle of the table. Let’s aim to maintain our recent form without looking beyond that.”

During their unbeaten run, Peterborough have only conceded three goals; however, they will be without center-back David Okagbue for several weeks due to an ankle injury sustained in their last match against Reading at the end of 2025.

“He caught a foot just above his ankle that twisted it, causing some damage,” Williams explained. “Fortunately, there’s no break, but it’s unfortunate since he was playing so well. We’re probably looking at him being out for more than a month.”

Striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan also missed the 2-0 victory over Rotherham, but his absence is expected to be short-term.

Williams noted, “He received some special treatment after that match against Reading, but that’s part of football. Talented players often face tough challenges, and a strong team has to handle that resilience and maintain their ability to play. I expect he’ll be back soon.”

The match against Rotherham included a physical battle, with wingers Declan Frith and Kyrell Lisbie enduring some aggressive tackles.

“We anticipated that physicality and knew players couldn’t shy away from it—thankfully, they didn’t,” Williams added. “Both Kyrell and Declan faced heavy challenges but bravely continued to engage with the game and contribute. We recognized their determination amidst a resolute Rotherham side, and eventually found the openings we needed to secure a win.”
