However, a goal from Chesterfield debutant Sam Curtis sparked a comeback for the visitors, culminating in Grigg’s late equalizer that secured a point for the Spireites.

This result sees Chesterfield rise to seventh place in the play-off standings, while MK Dons climbs to fifth ahead of the 15:00 GMT matches.

Paterson opened the scoring for the Dons in the 29th minute, converting a cross from Aaron Nemane.

Hepburn-Murphy extended the lead just before halftime, receiving a pass from Jon Mellish, advancing, and unleashing a spectacular strike from 25 yards out that beat goalkeeper Zach Hemming in the 44th minute.

Chesterfield came out stronger in the second half and nearly found the net when Craig MacGillivray made a crucial save to deny Ronan Darcy.
