In a thrilling match in Kuwait, Paris Saint-Germain relied on a last-minute equalizer and prevailed in a penalty shootout against Marseille, securing their fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.
Initially, PSG seemed on their way to victory after Ousmane Dembele scored early in the game, which featured the champions of Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.
However, Marseille turned the tide late with Mason Greenwood netting a penalty and Willian Pacho scoring an own goal to take the lead.
Goncalo Ramos managed to equalize in the dying moments, pushing the match to penalties, where PSG’s goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made pivotal saves against Matt O’Riley and Hamed Traore.
Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all successfully converted their penalties, ensuring a 4-1 win in the shootout.
With this victory, PSG, the record 14-time champions, faced last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after previously winning both the league title and the French Cup. This marks their 12th Super Cup win in the past 13 years.
