Manchester United have reached an agreement with Michael Carrick, who will step in as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Carrick takes over from Darren Fletcher, who has been managing the team following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim last week.

According to reports, Carrick edged out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the role at Old Trafford for the rest of the campaign.

The Athletic has indicated that Carrick will officially assume his position ahead of United’s match against Manchester City on Saturday.

Carrick enjoyed a 12-year playing career with United, during which he won 18 major trophies.

After retiring, the 44-year-old managed Championship club Middlesbrough for three years.
