Liverpool may need to strengthen their centre-back options, either in the upcoming January transfer window or during the summer of 2026.
Currently, Arne Slot’s squad is lacking central defenders due to the unsuccessful pursuit of Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day and a long-term injury to Giovanni Leoni.

Sporting director Richard Hughes must enhance both the quality and quantity of the centre-back position to ease the workload on Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez.
Micky van de Ven: A Long-term Target for Arne Slot
Konate, 26, will be a free agent at the end of the current season if he does not sign a new deal.
Gomez’s future is also uncertain, with AC Milan reportedly preparing an offer for the 28-year-old, who, like Van Dijk, is out of contract in 2027.

Liverpool has been linked to multiple defenders during this transfer window, including Guehi and Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge.
Recently, the club has received a significant boost in their efforts to acquire a new centre-back, as one of their defensive targets, and a favorite of Arne Slot, appears eager to join.
Van de Ven Interested in Moving to Liverpool
Micky van de Ven, 24, has been with Tottenham since transferring from Wolfsburg in 2023. However, prior to that, he was highly regarded by Slot, who sought to bring him in during his time at AZ and Feyenoord.

Reports indicate that Van de Ven has become frustrated at Spurs, as the team struggles outside of European competition and seems stagnant.
Considering his options, Caught Offside has reported that he is interested in joining the Dutch revolution at Anfield.
“One of their long-term targets in the form of Micky van de Ven is open to joining them,” the report states.
The Netherlands international has been a standout performer amid a challenging season for Tottenham and maintains a solid reputation within the squad.
Recently, he reached out to Alexander Isak over a challenge that left the Liverpool No.9 sidelined with a broken leg.
Van de Ven has previously praised Isak as the best striker he has faced in the Premier League.
