Tottenham appoint Moersen…

Tottenham Hotspur has announced the appointment of Carlos Raphael Moersen as their new Director of Football Operations.

This newly established role is part of Spurs’ broader initiative to modernize their football operations and enhance off-pitch support for sustained performance.

Moersen comes to Spurs from the City Football Group (CFG), where he spent over a decade engaged in its global football framework.

In his most recent role at CFG as Director of Football Transactions, he played a pivotal part in player recruitment and deal structuring for various clubs.

Tottenham has been in advanced discussions with Moersen since December, with initial reports of negotiations surfacing late last year.

Currently on gardening leave, he is expected to officially commence his duties in London before the summer transfer window.

The club emphasized that Moersen is not intended to directly replace Fabio Paratici, who is set to join Fiorentina on February 4.

Moersen will collaborate with Tottenham’s existing sporting director, Johan Lange, as part of a restructured leadership model.

He will report directly to Lange regarding men’s football, while also managing women’s football in conjunction with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham.

In a formal statement, Tottenham detailed that Moersen will oversee football administration, player care, and training ground operations.

Additionally, he will join the club’s executive leadership team, highlighting the strategic significance of his position.

A central aspect of his role will be revitalizing focus and ambition for the women’s team.

Lange praised Moersen as the standout candidate from a competitive selection process, lauding his expertise in managing complex football operations.

The appointment occurs amid significant changes within the club’s operations.

Vinai Venkatesham became chief executive last April, while Thomas Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager during the summer.

Long-serving executive director Donna-Maria Cullen also stepped down from the board in this timeframe.

Scott Munn, the chief football officer, was placed on gardening leave in June prior to his departure.

In September, Daniel Levy was removed as executive chairman after 24 years, with control shifting entirely to the Lewis family.

Further changes are anticipated, including the arrival of Dan Lewindon from CFG as Performance Director next month.

Lewindon will manage medical services, sports science, nutrition, and psychology across the men’s and women’s teams as well as the academy.

Rebecca Caplehorn is also expected to step down from her role as head of administration and football governance at the end of the winter transfer window.

Moersen’s appointment is seen internally as a stabilizing move during a transitional period, and the club is optimistic that his experience in elite multi-club systems will foster better alignment of football operations throughout Tottenham.
